Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT)

The candidate physical ability test (CPAT) was developed by the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF)/ International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Joint Labor Management Wellness/Fitness Initiative to allow fire departments to obtain pools of trainable candidates who are physically able to perform essential job tasks at fire scenes.

If selected to continue in the hiring process you will be afforded the opportunity to view the test events, talk with instructors, and physically examine the test components in a controlled setting.  This orientation is completely voluntary.  If you are selected to continue in the hiring process and you do not have a current CPAT certificate, Boca Raton Fire Rescue Services will contact you to schedule you for the Orientation, Timed Practice Session and the CPAT Test.

Attached is the Orientation Guide for the CPAT. This guide describes the test and how it will be administered. The guide is being distributed so you may begin preparation as soon as possible. A Preparation Guide can also be printed which guides the user on exercises to assist with preparation for the CPAT.

A Medical Release Form, and Release From Liability Form are also included for your review. You must complete the Medical Release and Release from Liability forms prior to your participation in either the orientation sessions or the testing sessions.

The address of orientation and testing for the CPAT is:
